The Phoenix Archery Club
Phoenix Archers was set up in the summer of 2010. Already we have in excess of 50 members.
We are affiliated to Archery GB we also incorporate a junior club which is affiliated in its own right. We are also a registered club with the NFAS – National Field Archery Society, and have several archers who regularly attend NFAS Organised shoots.
Although a small club we have a passion for our archery, and want to develop the sport for anyone interested. We cater for all ages although officially junior club membership starts at age eight. We actively encourage family involvement and are developing a fun group for those junior members who have not reached eight, these youngsters are known as fletchings.
We are fortunate to have one of our founding members as a qualified coach, he also has links within the Essex Guild of Archery Coaches, this helps us draw in support for members who are keen to progress to higher levels within the sport. Although other members are happy to turn up occasionally and just shoot for fun.
In 2011 we became a member of ontarget, Archery GB’s Club Development Programme. Clubs joining ontarget are making a public pledge to be open and friendly, to advance archery and to proactively work with Archery GB and in return clubs will be recognised, rewarded and given support, guidance and advice to develop and improve
We have several members who are proving to be keen competition archers, both in target and field archery. We have entered a number of local competitions and leagues in the Essex and Suffolk area with some success and have a number of medals to show for this. Several of our members also shoot for Essex County.
Our field is located near Clacton and this is used throughout the summer as we are fortunate to have open access, we also have facilities to shoot indoors during the winter season.
